News and notes from Monday's media availability from head coach Sean McDermott, offensive coordinator Joe Brady and defensive coordinator Bobby Babich.
WEEK 17 INJURY UPDATE: JOSH ALLEN, JORDAN POYER & MORE
Bills head coach Sean McDermott said Monday that quarterback Josh Allen is "day-to-day" going into Week 17 with a right foot injury that occurred during Sunday's 23-20 win over the Browns.
McDermott shared the QB's foot is "just sore" and added that Allen's has not had any additional testing since the end of the game. Allen had X-rays at halftime in Cleveland but was cleared to return and did not miss an offensive snap in Week 16.
The expectation is that the injury will not impact Allen's availability for Week 17 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
However, McDermott is unsure if the injury will impact Allen's practice reps leading up to the game.
"Don't know yet, there's a chance it does. We'll see. We're going to practice a little bit tomorrow (Tuesday)," he said. "We'll see how Josh shows up tomorrow and how he's feeling."
LB Shaq Thompson (neck), S Jordan Poyer (hamstring) and DT DaQuan Jones (calf) are all also listed as day-to-day.
With Christmas on Thursday, the Bills will be shifting their weekly schedule and holding their first practice of the week on Tuesday, typically a player off day. The Bills will then have Christmas Day off and hold the other two practices Wednesday and Friday.
PRACTICE SQUAD QB SIGNED TO CHIEFS ROSTER
Bills QB Shane Buechele was signed off the team's practice squad and onto the Kansas City Chiefs' active roster Monday afternoon. With Patrick Mahomes out with an ACL injury and backup Gardner Minshew injuring his knee on Sunday against Tennessee, Kansas City was in need of another QB for Week 17.
NFL teams are permitted to sign unprotected players off another team's practice squad under the condition that they are signed directly to the active roster. Teams are allowed to protect a maximum of 4 players on their practice squad from being signed elsewhere.
In this case, Buechele will now join the Chiefs' 53-man roster and could suit up as soon as Christmas Day when Kansas City hosts the Denver Broncos.
Buechele has been with the Bills since the start of the 2023 season, but was with the Chiefs (2021-22) for two seasons prior. Buechele has not attempted a regular pass in the NFL, but could be in line to do so with the Chiefs.
"More than anything, I'm happy for Shane. He and his family, they've been with us and done a phenomenal job. I have a ton of respect and love and admiration for Shane," McDermott shared.
McDermott added that "we'll look into" whether or not Buffalo wants to add another QB back to its practice squad this week.
FIRST THOUGHTS ON NEW VETERAN EDGE RUSHER
The Bills made an addition to their practice squad late last week, signing veteran DE Matthew Judon.
Judon has 72 career sacks since coming into the league in 2016 and the Bills are excited to get a player with as much experience as he has late in the season.
"We'll take a look at him this week and see where he's at and get him acclimated to kind of the way we do things and rock and roll from there," said DC Bobby Babich.
McDermott added that the Bills have a high "level of respect" for Judon and his career accomplishments.
