The Bills released a handful of players earlier in the week, but still had to undergo the task of moving 30 more players off their roster by 4 pm Saturday. Buffalo didn't have many surprise cuts as they got their roster to the required 53.
Two players were moved off the roster via injury settlements with the Bills. The most notable was Rod Streater, who was arguably the most consistent receiver in training camp. He sustained a dislocated toe in the preseason game against Philadelphia and had not been able to practice since.
The other players who reached an injury settlement with the club was safety Shamiel Gary. Gary looked to be in line for a spot on the 53-man roster, but an undisclosed injury just this past week led to the settlement.
An injury settlement means that when the player is free to sign with any other NFL club besides the Bills. If the player goes unsigned for three weeks beyond the agreed upon recovery time in the injury settlement he would then be eligible to be signed back by Buffalo.
Two other players were waived/injured. WR Jeremy Butler (concussion) and OL Michael Ola (ankle). Ola suffered his ankle injury in the final preseason game Thursday night.
LB Sam Barrington was placed on injured reserve outright effectively ending his 2017 season.
Buffalo also placed WR Walt Powell and OT Seantrel Henderson on the reserve/suspended list. Powell has to serve a four-game league-imposed suspension. Henderson has to serve five remaining games on a 10-game suspension handed down by the league last year.
