Buffalo's front office is coming together quickly at the top. A day after announcing the hire of Jim Schoen as Assistant general manager, GM Brandon Beane confirmed the hiring of Brian Gaine as Vice President of Player Personnel.

Gaine interviewed for the Bills general manager position when the Pegulas were trying to fill that post a couple of weeks ago, but Beane, who has known Gaine for the past five years took what he called a "shot in the dark" to land the Houston personnel executive.

"It's generally a pretty lateral move, but Brian was excited about building this and starting this," Beane told Buffalobills.com. "I think partnering with me and Joe was attractive. I know Brian and who he is to the core and trust that he's going to be a big time asset."

Gaine, who was most recently the Director of Player Personnel with the Houston Texans, has 18 years of NFL personnel experience.

Along with Houston GM Rick Smith, Gaine has helped to assemble one of the most talented defensive rosters in the league. He supervised all pro player evaluation, the advance scouting process, free agency and the monitoring of player transactional movement in all professional leagues while with the Texans.

Last year he was interviewed for the San Francisco 49ers general manager post and has interviewed in recent years for the Eagles, Bears and Jets GM openings.

Gaine has worked for four different NFL clubs prior to his arrival in Buffalo, including division rivals Miami and New York. During his six years with the Dolphins he worked alongside Schoen and served his last two years as Assistant general manager (2012-2013).

In addition to Smith in Houston, Gaine has worked with Hall of Fame coach Bill Parcells, Jeff Ireland, Dick Haley and Terry Bradway in his NFL career.

A Pearl River, New York native, Gaine is the youngest of five brothers.
