There were 21 prospects taking part in Bills rookie minicamp this past weekend on a tryout basis. In all likelihood only one or two might get a call back. For Dorin Dickerson and Nick Saenz the three days of work gave them an opportunity to further pursue an NFL career. Both were signed by Buffalo on Monday.
Dickerson is a former seventh-round pick of the Houston Texans (2010) and appeared in seven games as a rookie mainly on special teams. Released by Houston last September during final cuts, he had short stints on the Pittsburgh and New England practice squads.
The Bills see Dickerson (6'2" 226) as an off the line tight end/H-back prospect, which is where he saw most of his work during the club's three-day rookie minicamp.
The 24-year old is seen as an untapped talent after he played three different positions at Pitt, but never had enough time at any one spot to master it.
Dickerson lit up the NFL combine putting up great workout numbers with a 4.4 40-time, 24 reps on the bench, a 43.5-inch vertical and a 10'4" broad jump.
Buffalo also signed tryout safety Nick Saenz. The University of Houston product was a three-year starter for the Cougars appearing in 52 games mainly at free safety. Saenz (6'0" 195) finished his college career with 240 tackles, 14 pass breakups, three interceptions and three forced fumbles.
OT James Carmon, an undrafted free agent from Mississippi State has also been signed by Buffalo. He started 10 of 11 games in 2011 at Mississippi State after making the switch from the defensive to offensive line following the 2010 season.
Corp, Wild releasedThe news wasn't as good for two other players on the roster. Undrafted rookie signings Aaron Corp and Ian Wild were released by the Bills Monday. Corp was the University of Richmond quarterback who had transferred from USC. Wild was a Division II standout at nearby Mercyhurst and lined up at safety over the weekend with the Bills.
Buffalo now has a full roster of 90 players.
