'Bring the nasty to the defense' | 5 things to know about Bills' first 2026 draft pick OLB T.J. Parker

The Buffalo Bills selected OLB T.J. Parker No. 35 overall in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft. After making three trades in Day 1 of the draft, Buffalo got its first rookie of the bunch early in Day 2.

Here's five things to know about the newest addition to the Bills defense.

1. Parker's ready to apply his versatility to an outside linebacker role

Parker played edge at Clemson, but will transition to outside linebacker in defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard's new 3-4 scheme.

He's not shying away from the challenge, and is embracing it as an opportunity to demonstrate his versatility. Parker's motor and drive to win is what fuels him as a pass rusher and against the run.

"I think it's a great [thing]," Parker said of the position switch. "I'm very versatile. On my team, I can drop in coverage, I can rush the pass or I can stop the run. So, that just makes me versatile all across the board and, for me, I think that's very valuable."

Parker added that wherever head coach Joe Brady and Leonhard want him to be, that's where he'll play with no complaints.

"[Parker] brings a three down skill set to the group," general manager Brandon Beane said. "I just think that adds more value."

2. A dip in 2025 doesn't define Parker's ability

Parker's peak year over his three-season career at Clemson came in 2024 as a sophomore, earning a spot on the All-ACC Second-Team. He totaled 57 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, six forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one pass deflection.

His production in 2025 didn't hit that ceiling, registering 37 total tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, three fumble recoveries and one pass deflection. That dip didn't affect Parker's confidence in his ability, and feels ready to keep improving whether the numbers indicate it or not.

"I think I had a good year [in 2025]," Parker said regardless. "I feel like a lot of stuff on tape, I've improved from my sophomore year to my junior year. Now, I didn't have the same amount of sack production, but at the same time, I put great things on tape."

Beane agreed, saying that the consistency from year to year is certainly something to work on, but becoming a pro and maturing in the NFL doesn't happen overnight.

"He's got speed … he's got power, he can use his arm, I think he's got a multitude of moves," Beane said. "If you just look at his athletic ability and you see it on tape. His [2024] film was very impressive. It really was this year, [but] not as consistent … There were definitely flashes."

3. He has the right attitude "trying to bring the nasty to the defense"

Parker wants to work hard and win. When he got the call and saw Buffalo pop up on his phone, he knew he was going to the right place to do just that.

"That's all about me," Parker said of the work ethic at One Bills Drive.

He said he's excited to learn from everyone around him, improve his game, be a sponge and be a great teammate and addition to the locker room all while doing so.

As for what he brings to the Bills from day one:

"Very physical player who loves using hands, doesn't shy away from contact in the run or the pass game. Very powerful with my long arms and my speed, the power," Parker described himself.

"[I'm] one guy who could change up and use a little speed, a guy who's going to try to play with attitude, run to the ball, get there as fast as possible and put pain on somebody. [I'm] playing fast, physical football … and I'm trying to bring the nasty to the defense."

4. Parker's family pushes him to be the best athlete and person possible

Parker learned two key things from his father who was in the Army for 11 years: discipline and treating others with respect.

"I took that and applied it to my life as much as possible," Parker said of what he learned from his father. "The stories of things my dad's seen and went through as being a leader, those growing pains, I can relate to it the same way [when] leading my football team, my teammates [and] trying to be the best leader possible."

Parker continued surrounding himself with people who expect greatness out of him.

His wife, Azyah, pushes Parker to his fullest potential. She and Parker both played at Clemson with her being on the Tigers women's volleyball team, and the two got married in Oct. 2025.

"She's super competitive … She keeps me on my toes, always trying to make me the best athlete in the world," Parker said.

5. Bills Mafia and Parker have something in common

Parker's eagerness to get to Buffalo and start working almost immediately is already indicative of his love for the game.

He started playing sports from a young age and asked his parents to sign him up for football at four years old. Football soon became his favorite, taking over baseball and basketball. On Friday following the Bills' selection, he made sure his love for football was clear.

"I know one thing; the fans [in Buffalo] love football. And that's one thing I love," Parker said. "I love a good organization with a great culture. [Bills Mafia is] going to show up for us through the ups and downs. So, I'm excited to get up there and meet everybody."
