Bills quarterback Josh Allen has been named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 13. He is now the first Bills offensive player to win the award three times in one season. Allen helped Buffalo get to nine wins by beating the San Francisco 49ers 34 to 24 on Sunday night. The quarterback finished the game completing 32 of his 40 attempted passes for 375 passing yards. Allen tied a career-high four passing touchdowns and finished with a 139.1 passer rating. Allen also won the award following a Week 2 win at Miami and after a Week 9 win vs. Seattle.
"I got into a zone today," Allen said after Sunday night's win. "When it's spinning off your hand and you know what the ball's doing, what the tail's doing, that's kind of what I felt today. I understood where my guys were. Coach Daboll called a great game plan, our guys did a great job of executing. In a dome type of setting with no wind and no cold, when the ball's spinning off your hands you feel like you have supreme control and that's kind of what I felt tonight."
With his performance against the 49ers, Allen became the first passer in team history to attempt at least 40 passes in a game and complete at least 80 percent of the passes. It was also Allen's third game this season with at least 375 passing yards, at least three passing touchdowns and at least a 130 passer rating. He joined Saints quarterback Drew Brees as the only players since at least 1950 to do so.
While many continue to be surprised with Allen's body of work in his third season, his teammates are never shocked with the product he puts out on the field.
"He's a baller and he's been a baller, that's no surprise," safety Jordan Poyer said. "That's our quarterback, he's a baller. I don't know what answer you want me to say. It's no surprise to us what he does every week, I'm happy he's on our team. We try to play complimentary football as much as we can, when our offense is moving and they create momentum, we want to continue that momentum and continue to put our offense in good positions to be able to move the football."
Allen now has 33 total touchdowns this season. He needs only one more to tie the team record of 34 set by Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly in 1991.
Offensive coordinator Brian Daboll had this to say about Allen's performance. "I think he's a confident player every time he steps out on the field. He had a good game. He played well. You know, he was getting the ball out. One of our goals this game playing the team we just played was first-down production and staying away from some of those third and longs when the looks get a little bit fuzzy and they do a good job of that. He did a great job of staying on track."
