Record number of underclassmen declare for NFL draft

In recent years the increase typically numbers eight to 10 additional prospects. This year a stunning 102 underclassmen declared their eligibility for the NFL draft this May (including four players to graduate early), up from last year's figure of 73 underclass eligibles.

Year Special Eligibility
2014 98
2013 73
2012 65
2011 56
2010 53
2009 46
2008 53
2007 40
2006 52
2005 51

For Bills GM Doug Whaley it's an attractive additional pool of talent that has their personnel department intrigued despite the fact that it adds to their already heavy workload this time of year.

"The list definitely catches your attention when it comes to the record number of underclassmen who have declared for the 2014 draft," Whaley told Buffalobills.com. "As a personnel staff, we'll continue to follow our usual protocol and listen to the initial reads on the underclassmen during our BLESTO meetings at the Senior Bowl. Plus, our scouts will continue our evaluations on all the eligible players in this year's draft class and we look forward to selecting players who will add to our talent-base on the roster."

Here's the list of underclassmen by position who have declared themselves eligible for the 2014 NFL draft.
