The Buffalo Bills' 37-34 victory on Monday night over the Los Angeles Rams caught the attention of the football world, and a deeper dive into a few of the advanced stats shows why Buffalo came away the win.

Here's an in-depth look at the overtime classic:

Josh Allen dazzles with his legs

QB Josh Allen had one of his best rushing games of his nine-year career in Monday night's victory. His 121 yards on the ground was the second-highest mark of his career, 14 shy of the 135 he hung on the Dolphins in Week 13 of the 2018 season as a rookie.

107 of the 121 total rushing yards for Allen on Monday came from scrambles, the most by any player this season and third-most in a game since 2016. Allen has rushed for 100+ yards on scrambles twice in his career; The entire rest of the NFL has also done so just twice since 2016.

Allen's yards didn't come easily either, with 113 of them coming after making contact with a defender. The 6-foot-5, 237-pound signal caller routinely broke tackles on Monday night, averaging a robust 11.3 yards after contact per attempt to top the league in Week 5. Second place among qualified rushers was Los Angeles Chargers RB Kimani Vidal, picking up 5.5 yards after contact per attempt.

On the 10 rushing attempts for the quarterback, he hit 15 miles per hour or higher six times. That was the second most from any qualified ball carrier in Week 5, giving Allen 13 total runs over that speed so far this season.

Rushing Expected Points Added (EPA) quantifies the net value a ball carrier adds on run plays by calculating the change in Expected Points on the scoreboard from the start of a rushing play to the end of that play.

Allen leads the NFL in the metric by a significant margin this season, with a big boost from his performance against the Rams.

Through Week 5, Allen has +25.6 rushing EPA, 14.7 points higher than Kansas City Chiefs RB Kenneth Walker in second place. His +12.6 rushing EPA in Week 5 was the highest of any ball carrier in a game this season.

Alongside rushing EPA, rush success rate measures the percentage of carries that result in positive expected points added, indicating the ability to keep the offense on schedule. Allen's 10 rushes on Monday night all resulted in positive expected points added, giving him a 100% rush success rate. It was the first time a qualified ball carrier has done that this season.

YAC attack

Buffalo struggled to find consistency through the air throughout Monday night's battle against the Los Angeles defense. The majority of the team's 202 passing yards came from giving playmakers the ball in space, and reaping the benefits.

The Bills tallied 196 yards after catch (YAC) in Week 5, second across the league only behind the Rams (217), who had nearly double the total passing yards (377). Buffalo gained 16.3 yards after catch per reception against the Rams, the highest average in a game this season by over five yards.

Almost all of the YAC came from the team's three leading receivers on the night. RB Ty Johnson led the way with 81 yards after catch in the win, good for the second-most among all receivers in Week 5. The 29-year-old caught three of his four receptions behind the line of scrimmage and turned them into significant gains after the catch

57 of Johnson's YAC were considered YAC over expected (also second in the NFL in Week 5), which measures the difference between a receiver's actual yards after catch and expected yards after catch, representing a receiver's ability to create explosive plays and maximize yardage on receptions.

Johnson averaged -2.4 air yards per target, but still finished his night with 72 receiving yards overall in the win. His play of the night came with just under six minutes left in the second quarter, making a defender miss and flying down the right sideline for 40 yards on a screen pass.

WR Khalil Shakir led the team in total receiving yards in Monday night's victory with 80 on three receptions. He racked up 63 yards after catch, including 30 YAC over expected, good for fourth among receivers in Week 5.

Shakir showed off his YAC skills in the clutch, picking up 52 extra yards on his lone reception in the overtime period. The wideout's speed was on full display on the 57-yard grab, reaching 21.89 MPH, the fastest speed by a ball carrier this season.

Despite only having one reception on Monday, RB Ray Davis made the most of his opportunity. He caught his only pass of the night near the beginning of the fourth quarter, 6.9 yards behind the line of scrimmage.

Finding a seam and breaking a tackle on the screen pass, Davis picked up 38 yards after the catch, 28 of which were over expected.

Shutting down the Rams' dominant run game

Prior Week 5 matchup against the Bills, Rams RB Kyren Williams ranked as one most efficient rushers in the league. Through the first four weeks of the season, Williams averaged 5.4 yards per carry, good for fifth in the NFL.

Buffalo slowed the 26-year-old down in Week 5, with Williams rushing 16 times for just 49 yards on the ground. His 3.1 yards per carry on Monday night was 31st among 41 qualified rushers this week.

Williams has also been one of the league's best at generating extra yards, entering Monday night sixth in the NFL in rushing yards over expected per attempt (1.0). The stat measures the difference between a rusher's actual yards gained and the expected yards for a given play.

The Bills did well to keep Williams in check, finishing the night averaging -1.0 rushing yards over expected per attempt, also good for 31st in the league.

Los Angeles averaged 126.8 yards per game through the first four weeks as a team, with its lowest total of the season being 106 back in Week 1. Buffalo's run defense was up to the challenge, allowing just 77 yards in the win.

A big reason for the success against the run defensively came up front. The Rams offense led the league with the lowest run stuff rate at 8.6% prior to Week 5. This tracks the percentage of rushes that the defense stops at or behind the line of scrimmage (zero or fewer yards gained).

Buffalo stuffed 17.4% of Los Angeles' carries on Monday night, helping pave the way to the 37-34 victory.
