The Buffalo Bills have signed defensive end Casey Toohill to a one-year contract, the team announced Tuesday afternoon.

Toohill was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft, but was waived during his rookie season and signed with the Washington Commanders to finish out the year. In his four years in Washington, Toohill tallied seven sacks, three fumble recoveries and 78 total tackles.

Toohill scored a touchdown in Week 10 of the 2022 season in a win over the Philadelphia Eagles, recovering a failed lateral pass from receiver DeVonta Smith and returning it to the endzone to ice the victory.

The former Stanford Cardinal is coming off a career-high five sacks last season, in which he started eight of the 16 games played for Washington. The San Diego native was a second-team All-Pac-12 honoree in 2019 after recording 11.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks.

At Stanford, he was also named a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, awarded to a student athlete for "combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership."
