Defense was the focal point for Buffalo in its first game under defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard, making plays up and down the depth chart. On the offensive end, the new connection between Josh Allen and DJ Moore was on full display, with the quarterback already playing like he's in midseason form.

The Bills wasted no time acclimating to Highmark Stadium, setting the tone for the first game in the new stadium with multiple chunk plays on the first drive of the day.
Quarterback Josh Allen took his first snap of the season, faking a handoff to James Cook III before finding Khalil Shakir with a few yards of separation on a crossing route over the middle. Shakir made the catch in stride, picking up 21 yards on the first play from scrimmage.
Just one play later, Allen got to show off his connection with new wideout DJ Moore, again finding his receiver off a play-action fake. Moore came across the field on a drag from right to left, looking the ball in with no defenders in a 10-yard radius. Sprinting down the sideline, Moore was finally stopped after picking up 32 yards.
The duo put together a great showing despite playing just two drives on Saturday, with Moore tallying three catches for 61 yards. Allen connected with the 29-year-old twice on their second drive, the first being a layered ball over a defender by the right sideline, and the next coming on a deep out route to the left side off play action to set up a touchdown one play later.
Allen finished off his day on a high note, rolling to his right in the redzone off play action, pump-faking and juking back inside to avoid a defender. Keeping his eyes on the end zone, he ripped a pass back to his left over the middle of the field to an open Keon Coleman who found space in the scramble drill for a nine-yard touchdown.
The next touchdown of the day for Buffalo came midway through the fourth quarter, with running back Ian Wheeler taking a handoff in from six yards out. Great blocking up front freed up a huge running lane up the middle that Wheeler didn't miss.
Fellow running back Frank Gore Jr. helped capitalize on a turnover late in the fourth quarter, picking up 16 yards on a run he bounced to the outside, before punching a handoff up the middle across the goal line from three yards out.

The second-year defensive lineman picked up a sack on his final play of the day in the second quarter, looping around from right to left and clearing any blockers in his path to the quarterback to force a punt.
Back in the first quarter, Walker again found success looping around from his defensive tackle spot. Coming around the right edge, Walker barreled in on Panthers quarterback Bryce Young, forcing an incompletion just before he could finish the sack.
In the run game, Walker utilized his 6-foot-7, 331 pound frame to create havoc as well, picking up a huge tackle for loss on the first defensive snap of the game. He was in on another blown up run later on, getting a hand on Carolina running back Jonathon Brooks to help Bradley Chubb pick up a TFL of his own.
Mike Danna was a force to be reckoned with on the edge, using his speed and power to make a pair of huge plays at the beginning of the fourth quarter.
The 28-year-old first flashed his speed off the right edge, bedding around the outside and wrapping up Panthers quarterback Kenny Pickett for a loss of three yards on the sack.
Just two plays later, Danna again flew off the right edge, using his arms to keep his distance and being pushed around the outside from a double team. This opened a lane straight to Pickett again, finishing the play for his second sack of the drive.
The front seven showed a great level of comfortability in their first game snaps in the new scheme, with TJ Parker continuing the party in the third quarter. The second-round rookie got some help from T.J. Sanders and Javon Solomon, who flushed Pickett into his arms coming off the right edge for the first, unofficial, sack of his career.
On the backend, Kani Walker had the play of the day with an interception in the fourth quarter. Lined up in off coverage, the undrafted rookie recognized a screen coming to his side of the field before the snap. Sprinting down, Walker put himself between Carolina quarterback Kyle Trask and his receiver, watching the ball into his hands for the pick.
Tyler Bass saw his first game action since the 2025 preseason on Saturday, attempting four field goals in the win. The 29-year-old finished with makes from 33, 46 and 29 yards, missing one from 45 out and making both of his extra points.
