It was a decision that was a long time in the making, but 11 months after he was signed as a free agent by the Buffalo Bills quarterback Kevin Kolb is again a free agent. It's the second straight offseason that the veteran signal caller has been released by a club. Last April the Arizona Cardinals made him a salary cap casualty.

Kolb was due a roster bonus this week by the Bills, but there was also a medical evaluation that the organization stated was impacting their decision as well. On Monday GM Doug Whaley confirmed that Kolb failed his physical.

For Kolb his year with the Bills obviously did not go the way he or anyone else with the organization wanted it to unfold. His first training camp with Buffalo was interrupted by the passing of his grandmother, which forced him to miss several days of practice. There was also a freak knee injury that occurred when he slipped on a rubber mat jogging from one practice field to the other that cost him a few more days on the practice field.

He appeared in just two preseason games for the Bills against Minnesota and Washington last August. Kolb suffered a concussion against the Redskins when on a scramble play he was struck in the back of the head while sliding.

The quarterback landed on injured reserve Aug. 30th preventing him from ever appearing in a game in the 2013 regular season. Now 29-years old it's unclear whether Kolb intends to continue his playing career having suffered multiple concussions in his seven NFL seasons.

With Kolb now off the roster it's anticipated that the Bills will be on the lookout for a veteran quarterback in free agency to add to the roster. Buffalo made use of three different quarterbacks last season, but EJ Manuel, Thad Lewis and Jeff Tuel went into the season with a combined one NFL start. The trio of young quarterbacks remain under contract.
