Kolb named Bills HS coach of the week 2

Jason Kolb, Burgard High School head football coach, has been named the Buffalo Bills High School Coach of the Week for the second week of the high school football season. The Burgard Bulldogs knocked off the defending Harvard Cup champion Riverside Frontiers, 13-12, at All High Stadium in Buffalo this past weekend.

The Bulldogs scored all of their 13 points in the second quarter on a 1-yard quarterback keeper by Darren Sanders, and a 10-yard Sanders TD pass to Assante Huggins with 34 seconds left in the half.  Burgard stopped a two-point conversion attempt by Riverside with less than seven minutes left in the game to secure the victory.  The Bulldog's defense held Riverside to 140 yards in total offense.

"The little things, like knocking that ball down, those are game changers," said Kolb. "Those are what we call sudden changes.  We practice those during the year to make sure we come out and get a first down after a sudden change or turnover.  We get a big play here and there, it can really be devastating to a team and really keep the edge up where we can stay on top."

Coach Kolb is in his eighth season as the Burgard Bulldogs head coach.  He is also a Special Education teacher at Burgard High School.

This is the 13th consecutive year of the Buffalo Bills Coach of the Week program. Each week during the 11-week high school football season, a committee appointed by the Buffalo Bills selects a head football coach as Coach of the Week. The honorees receive a certificate signed by the Dick Jauron, Buffalo Bills head coach, Russ Brandon Buffalo Bills general manager/chief operating officer and Roger Goodell, NFL commissioner.  They also receive a Buffalo Bills Coach of the Week cap and $1,000 donation to their school's football program from the Buffalo Bills Youth Foundation. Recognition of the winning coach will also be shown on the Buffalo Bills official website (www.buffalobills.com).

At the end of the season, one of the weekly award winners will be named Coach of the Year and will receive an additional $1,000 donation to the school's football program.
