LB Davis to I-R; Bills sign FB Ganther

Bills inside linebacker Andra Davis just could not function well enough to play the football he's used to playing. With a severe shoulder injury limiting his ability, the nine-year veteran was shut down for the 2010 season.

"He's going to have to be put on I-R," said head coach Chan Gailey. "He's not going to be able to make it back this year."

Davis tore the labrum in his shoulder in Week 1 against Miami, but played courageously with the injury using a shoulder harness to keep the pain manageable while preventing any further damage.

Head coach Chan Gailey said late that team physicians were going to take a long look at Davis' shoulder after he was unable to even practice last week, and surgery could be in the linebacker's future.

A free agent acquisition this offseason, Davis was a stabilizing force in getting a lot of Buffalo's defenders acclimated to the 3-4 defensive scheme with which he was very familiar.

Despite not playing in last Sunday's game against Chicago, Davis was still the team's fifth leading tackler and still has the club's only interception this season.

Bills add FB GantherBuffalo made an addition to their offensive backfield Monday signing FB Quinton Ganther. The five-year vet was most recently with the Seattle Seahawks, but was released last Tuesday after appearing in three games for the NFC West club this season including one start.

Ganther (5'9", 220) is known as a solid special teams player capable of handling a between the tackles role as a blocker or ball carrier.

He's coming off a career season with the Redskins in 2009, where injuries allowed him to get an opportunity in the Washington backfield. Ganther appeared in eight games for the Redskins last season making four starts. He had 62 carries for 201 yards (3.2 avg.) and three touchdowns along with nine receptions for 99 yards.

Ganther began his NFL career as a seventh-round draft choice of the Tennessee Titans in 2006, where he spent most of his first two NFL seasons on the club's practice squad.

The 26-year old Utah product is expected to serve an immediate role on Buffalo's special teams.

The Bills also waived RB Andre Anderson. The undrafted rookie was a late training camp addition, and was promoted to the active roster from the Bills practice squad following the trade of Marshawn Lynch.

Practice squad moveBuffalo also released FB Rodney Ferguson from their practice squad Monday.
