Bills name Al Holcomb as linebackers coach, Marcus West as defensive line coach

The Bills are making internal hires for two defensive coaching positions, the team announced Friday. Buffalo is promoting Al Holcomb to linebackers coach and Marcus West to defensive line coach.

Holcomb joined Buffalo's staff in 2023 as a senior defensive assistant. Prior to that, he had two coaching stints in various defensive roles with the Carolina Panthers (2013-17 & 2020-22), one year with the Arizona Cardinals (2018) and one year with the Cleveland Browns. 

Holcomb was the Panthers linebackers coach from 2013-17 during the time when Sean McDermott was Carolina's defensive coordinator. He also coached LBs Luke Kuechly (2013 DPOY) and Thomas Davis (first team All-Pro in 2015) during that time.

West joined the Bills in 2022 as the team's assistant defensive line coach. West has served as the defensive line coach at several colleges and most recently was the assistant head coach/co-defensive coordinator/ defensive line coach at UNC Charlotte.

He was also a standout defensive lineman at the University of Memphis, earning All-Conference USA honors in 2004 and 2005 and also garnered honorable mention All-America honors in 2005.
