Quarterback Josh Allen sought out wide receiver Khalil Shakir in the back of the end zone, but the pass was too far from Shakir's reach to take a 15-13 lead. The Bills' defense came up with crucial stops in the second half, giving their offense some breathing room.
On Philadelphia's first drive of the second half after Buffalo was forced to punt, two incompletions and a tackle for a loss of two yards by linebacker Shaq Thompson put the ball back into Allen's hands.
When the Bills' defense took the field again, cornerback Taron Johnson leapt up with wide receiver Devonte Smith and helped force an incompletion on second-and-10. It was initially ruled a completion for 17 yards, but head coach Sean McDermott challenged the call and won as the ball hit the ground and bobbled in Smith's hands. Thompson finished another defensive stand, pressuring quarterback Jalen Hurts on third down. Hurts had no choice but to throw the ball away.
Allen was inches away from scoring a touchdown on the ensuing drive. A completion to wide receiver Tyrell Shavers for 32 yards put the Bills at the Eagles' seven-yard-line, giving the offense hope of scoring their first points of the evening. However, on fourth-and-goal from the three-yard-line, Allen had no available options in the end zone to pass and couldn't extend the ball past the goal line before being ruled down.

While Hurts got his offense out of danger with a two-yard rush up the middle from inside Philadelphia's own one-yard-line, the Bills didn't allow much more. Defensive end Greg Rousseau eventually put an end to the drive, sacking Hurts for a loss of two yards.
Another series of back-to-back punts for both teams put the ball back in Allen's hands. Slowly chipping away from Buffalo's 46-yard-line, a 13-yard completion to Shakir put the Bills in the red zone. Running back Ty Johnson surged forward up the middle for eight yards, landing at the three-yard-line. A short, one-yard gain from Johnson set Allen up for a tush push that drove him past the goal line for Buffalo's first touchdown of the game with 5:51 remaining. A blocked extra point made it 13-6 with time ticking down.
The Bills' defense returned, quickly getting Allen back on the field with 3:29 left on the clock.
On a trick play on fourth-and-10 at Buffalo's 29-yard-line, Allen threw to Shavers who pitched it over to Johnson almost immediately. The running back took the ball 20 yards into Philadelphia territory. An incompletion on the next play didn't kill the offense's momentum. Allen connected with wide receiver Brandin Cooks deep down the field at the Eagles' 19-yard-line for a 36-yard completion.
Allen used his legs again, surveying his options then running it himself, getting even closer to the end zone on a six-yard scramble. From the three-yard-line, Allen targeted tight end Dawson Knox. Initially ruled a touchdown, the score was overturned as Knox's arm hit the ground just short of the goal line. On fourth-and-one, Allen logged his second rushing touchdown of Sunday's game.
Despite the 13-0 deficit for Buffalo at halftime, neither offense had an easy time driving down the field. Hurts completed 14 of 21 passes for 115 yards and one touchdown in the first half. Allen had a 90-yard passing performance on seven-of-10 throws. On the ground, the Eagles had 59 total yards on 15 carries; and the Bills had 55 rushing yards on 12 carries.
After sharing punts back-and-forth in the first quarter, Allen had a momentum-sparking pass deep down the field to Cooks. On second-and-16, Allen launched the ball down the field 50 yards, hitting Cooks in the chest as he fell backward to the ground.
The Bills couldn't capitalize on the massive completion, though, as Allen lost control of the ball on the next set of downs. Linebacker Jaelan Phillips got his hand around Allen, forcing the ball to pop out and tumble down in the other direction. Linebacker Jihaad Campbell jumped on top of it at the Buffalo 42-yard-line, putting the Eagles back in control and swinging the momentum quickly after the Bills got rolling.
Philadelphia converted the turnover into a touchdown, the first score of the game for either team. After stopping running back Saquan Barkley twice in a row, the Eagles opted for a pass on second-and-one. Tight end Dallas Goedert was uncovered making his way into the end zone. Hurts sent the ball over and Goedert hauled it in for the touchdown.
Turnovers and penalties, however, gave Buffalo a more difficult time than Philadelphia. The Bills had three penalties called on them for 30 yards while the Eagles had two calls for 10 combined yards.
In the second quarter after Philadelphia scored, Buffalo's offense seemed to spark once again. Allen had a 17-yard scramble up the middle that got his team closer to midfield at the Bills' 44-yard-line. Handing the ball off to running back James Cook III on two consecutive plays, it would have been a 14-yard total gain. On the second run, an eight-yard rush, left tackle Dion Dawkins drew an offensive holding penalty, backing them up into their own territory again. Buffalo eventually punted on the drive.
With Hurts and his offense back on the field, the Bills' defense came up with a stop of third-and-12. However, linebacker Matt Milano was called for defensive holding, giving the Eagles an automatic first down and more life. Philadelphia ended the drive with a successful, 47-yard field goal.
