Bills-Redskins: Player reaction

**

Bills S Aaron Williams**

On the play of the defense:

"We just put too much pressure on ourselves. We didn't go out there and let plays come to us. We were trying to make plays and that kind of cost us the whole game, pretty much. We know what we're doing, but we're doing a little too much to try to make a play and it cost us in the long run. We are playing our responsibilities; we just have to be a little more aggressive. I think we were a little hesitant about not being beat deep, or the fact that we missed tackles, or not there at the right moment."

On field position and defending a short field:

"We have to go out and do our job, no matter where the ball is at. We have to overcome the situation and go out there and get the offense the ball back. Just like the first drive, we gave up one and the offense got our back and scored. After that, we just have to go out and do our responsibility and not worry about anything else."

On how the defense looks at the quarterback shortage and the pressure it puts on the defense:

"We have to just overcome the outcome right now, not face anything that offense has to worry about. Once our defense is called out there, we have to do our job. We have to go out there and give it our all, no matter what the situation is. We didn't do that today. Good thing it's preseason. We still got another one coming up. We just have to go get ready for Detroit now."

Bills LB Bryan Scott

On suffering the team's first loss of the preseason:

"It's very tough. It doesn't matter if it's preseason or regular season. The one thing that I noticed after this game is that guys care. You see guys around this locker room and it bothers them to go out and lose that way. At the end of the day, it matters to us. We just didn't make plays. Whether it was offense, defense or special teams, we didn't make plays. We seemed a little sluggish, but after every loss there is something to be taught and I'm curious to see how we're going to come back and respond. We have a pretty short week. We finish out in Detroit to end the preseason and this is the first time we've lost as a team."

On how the team can respond from this loss:

"The first series we came out and we did well on first and second down. I let that wheel route get away from me and that was the first of plays that we just gave up. I look at it as a snowball effect. It just kind of went downhill from there. Like I said, there's a silver lining in everything. There is a lot to be taught and learned from this loss, but right now it stinks because it hurts to lose."

Bills WR T.J. Graham

On the passing game:

"We always want to attack deep. Every time we can go deep it opens up everything underneath, so for us to come out throwing from the beginning, it gives us a chance to open up for the run game and for [wide receiver] Stevie [Johnson] underneath. We've got to connect on those. Just getting the interference calls helps a lot, too."

On how the team needs to respond to this loss:

"You need these times so that we can go back, regroup and reevaluate things. Even winning teams have bumps in the road and right now we've got to figure it out. We are a whole new team and this is the first time we've lost together, so now we get to see how guys react to it. As a team, we need to figure it out and come out next week."

Bills RB Fred Jackson

On what the outcome of the game means:

"Go to work. You know, look at the things we didn't get done that we wanted to accomplish and go and correct those mistakes. I give Washington credit. They made plays when they got the opportunity and we didn't. So that is what we have to correct."

On the current quarterback situation and helping quarterback Jeff Tuel:

"That's just it, work with him. Figure out what it is that he likes, do whatever we can to make his job easier. As a running back, the best thing we can do is establish a running game. That takes a lot of pressure off of him. That's the number one thing we need to get done."

On the offense going through him and running back C.J. Spiller:

"That's just it. We know that we can make things a lot easier for everybody if we can get some type of running game going. You know, that's what it looks like we are going to have to do and we're up for that task and we'll make this thing go."

On what made it tough to get the offense going after the first touchdown:

"I think you just have to give [Washington] credit. They made plays when we didn't. They were able to come off blocks and make tackles. Myself, I didn't break tackles when I needed to. You have to give them credit. Their scheme, we didn't adjust well to it today."

On building confidence without having the top two quarterbacks for most of the preseason:

"I mean that's just it. We're not at full strength right now. We expect big things from [quarterback] Jeff [Tuel]. He's handled this offense. He's come in and made plays when he had the opportunity, nothing to take away from him. When we go out and start scheming teams and things like that, we are very vanilla on offense. So that is something to take out of this. Some confidence we can take out of. Going in knowing we can scheme guys and put guys in the right situations."
