Bills head coach Sean McDermott appeared on WGR550 this morning and has ruled out defensive tackle DaQuan Jones (calf), wide receiver Joshua Palmer (knee/ankle) and safety Taylor Rapp (knee) for Sunday's game against Carolina.

Jones, Palmer and Rapp did not participate in practices this week. McDermott also said that Rapp will be placed on Injured Reserve, sidelining him for a minimum of four games.

"It came up in training camp unfortunately and he was dealing with it since then," McDermott told WGR550. "It just got to the point where he's just not able to really be himself. And so, we're making the decision right now through the medical people's opinion that we'll put him on IR and we'll take it one week at a time right now."

McDermott added that at this point it doesn't seem like Jones or Palmer will need to be placed on IR.

"Feeling more comfortable that it's not going to lead to IR," he said. "Can't say we're out of the woods yet on either of those two at this point, but feel like we're heading in the right direction."

Linebacker Terrel Bernard (ankle), linebacker Matt Milano (pectoral), tight end Dalton Kincaid (oblique) and wide receiver Curtis Samuel (ribs) were all limited for Wednesday and Thursday's practice.

According to McDermott, Samuel will be a full participant for Friday's practice and will be good for Sunday's game. McDermott said Bernard, Milano and Kincaid will be limited for Friday's practice and questionable for Sunday.

Rookie cornerback Maxwell Hairston's 21-day practice window was opened this week. The rookie was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday.

McDermott has liked what he's seen out of Hairston this week.

"He's done some good things," McDermott said. "He really has. Again, just managing the expectations. And you want to take it one day at a time. There is a lot that's new for him because of the amount of time that he's missed due to the injury."

McDermott said "we'll see" when asked if Hairston will be activated for Sunday's game.

Defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi and defensive end Michael Hoecht returned from suspension this week. McDermott said the two will appear in Sunday's game against Carolina.
