Athaan Kaudeyr, a seventh-grade student from Olmsted School #56, has won the 2009 Buffalo Bills and Perry's Ice Cream "Sweetest Kid" contest. Athaan's grand prize included a Perry's Ice Cream party for his entire school with Bills defensive tackle Marcus Stroud on December 15th.

Perry's ran the "Sweetest Kid of the Week" promotion for eight weeks through October 20th where teachers, community member, coaches, parents and others nominated students in grades 4-8. The nomination had to describe outstanding academic, athletic and community achievements.

There were eight weekly winners and each student received free Perry's Ice Cream and a Buffalo Bills prize pack.  Out of those eight, one winner, Athaan Kaudeyr, received the grand prize.

"My son is the sweetest boy his age," said Aubrey Marshall. "He started his own hallway cleaning service for the elders in our apartment complex and is always there to bring a grocery bag in from their car for them. Everyone in the complex knows him, loves and supports him. When we visit my grandparents he is quick to volunteer at the senior center during bingo or dancing with the members there. He was mentioned in their newsletter for helping with the newsletter and organizing game day. He's my only child and I am lucky to have him in my life. He was also accepted into the gifted and talented program in school and is the team captain of his Pop-Warner football team."

The school held a special assembly where Stroud and Kaudeyr were introduced by the principal to a thundering ovation. Kids were treated to a Perry's ice cream party after the assembly. In addition, Athaan and his social studies classmates had the opportunity to share their current studies with Stroud in their classroom, ask him questions, take pictures and get autographs.

Stroud spoke to Athaan's classmates and gave some good advice. "I know it's a cliché, but never give up," said Stroud. "Whatever you have in your mind, you focus on it regardless of obstacles.  Keep the focus if you have that goal. It's simple but it's hard, never give up."

"Perry's is a regional company and is dedicated to supporting our local schools," said Robert Denning, Perry's Ice Cream president and chief executive officer. "The 'Sweetest Kid of the Week' promotion through our partnership with the Buffalo Bills gives us the opportunity to celebrate an outstanding student who is making a difference in our community and in the lives of others."
