The Bills made a roster move in their defensive backfield on Tuesday. Buffalo released CB Phillip Gaines.

Gaines, who returned to the starting lineup after an injury in Week 6 at Houston, had just one pass breakup in the last four games and was called for a number of pass interference calls in recent weeks.

Defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier was asked about Gaines' two pass interference calls from Sunday's game on Monday.

"The technique is probably the big issue. You can see he is in position a lot of times, but when that ball is in the air, to be able to play the football and not necessarily the man, that's the key," he said. "That's what we'll avoid, some of those DPIs that we've been getting. Just got to find a way to be able to locate the football, play the ball and not have contact with those receivers."

Gaines was signed as a free agent this past spring.

Taking his place on the roster is undrafted rookie Levi Wallace. Wallace was signed by the Bills back in May after the draft and has been with the team through the spring and summer. He has spent the entire 2018 season on Buffalo's practice squad.
