The Buffalo Bills signed two familiar faces on Wednesday Feb. 11. Quarterback Shane Buechele and wide receiver Jalen Virgil signed one-year deals with the Bills.
Buechele started his career with Kansas City in 2021 as an undrafted free agent. He was signed to the Chiefs' practice squad as a rookie and backed up quarterback Patrick Mahomes in 2022. The Bills signed Buechele to their practice squad in 2023 after he was waived by Kansas City, then signed a reserve/future contract in Jan. 2024. After spending the 2024 season on injured reserve, he was released by Buffalo before the start of the 2025 season and re-signed to its practice squad.
The Chiefs picked Buechele back up in Dec. 2025, signing him to their active roster and made his NFL debut as well. He completed seven of 14 passes for 88 yards against the Raiders. Buechele was picked up by Buffalo again and added back to their practice squad in January as the Bills entered the playoffs.
Virgil signed with Denver as an undrafted free agent in 2022. During his rookie season, he had two receptions for 75 yards, including a 66-yard touchdown as his first career reception. He made nine total game appearances and one start as a Bronco. Virgil was placed on injured reserve in Aug. 2023 and was waived by Denver a year later.
The Bills signed Virgil to their practice squad the day after he was waived. The wide receiver eventually made it onto the active roster. He played in seven games for Buffalo in 2024. Virgil was then released and re-signed to the practice squad, signed a future/reserve contract in Jan. 2025 with the Bills but was waived ahead of the season.
Arizona signed him to its practice squad briefly. After being released, he spent a short time in the United Football League with the DC Defenders before making his way back to One Bills Drive.
