Carrington promotes NuVal with local students

Late last week Alex Carrington visited with students at St. Greg's school in Williamsville, NY to discuss the importance of the Play 60 program as well as the NuVal™ Nutritional Scoring System. Available locally in Tops Friendly Markets, the NuVal™ program was presented to the 4th – 8th grade students in attendance and Alex related the program's healthy eating practices to his own personal experiences as well as some of his favorite healthy foods.

"I really enjoyed myself today, nutrition and exercise go hand in hand with one another and what we need to teach students is you can't just work out or just eat right, you need to do a combination of both," said Carrington. "The NuVal system sounds awesome and very simple to use. Exercising is one of my passions so I'm happy to come speak to students about the importance of it.

"Some of the tips I always like to give are get involved in sports with your friends or incorporating exercise in your morning routine – even if you aren't a morning person try getting out of bed even 10 minutes early to do push-ups and sit-ups and see how you feel throughout the rest of the day. It really boosts your energy levels for the entire day and just makes you that much more productive."

NuVal is a nutritional points system that gives every food a value from one to 100. The higher the score the better the food is for you.  It works well with schools because it's a great correlation with test scores – the closer to 100 you score on a test the better and the higher the number is in NuVal the better.
