Evans addresses trade rumors

Lee Evans has heard the trade rumors to which his name has been attached the past few days, but at this point he's not paying them much mind.

"It's hard for me to comment on it now," Evans said. "It's one of those things where you've got to find out how much substance is behind it and see what happens. You see some blogs and hear some things around the internet and on the news. So we just have to see what the truth is."

The Bills had an off day on Tuesday, so many of Evans' teammates also saw the various reports that are out there.

"At this point you've just got to go with what you know," said Ryan Fitzpatrick. "I've seen the rumors and the speculation, but what I know is he's still on our team and still a big part of our team and that's the way I look at it."

Evans said he's never really thought about playing anywhere after he signed a long term contract extension with the club in 2008. The veteran receiver hasn't taken the time to think about whether the grass is greener somewhere else.

"You just try to do what you can in the situation that you're in," he said. "If you're thinking about what could've been or what should've been or what could be, then you're not going to make the most of your opportunities here. I've never really thought about it. You grind out here to make this team better and be successful."

Evans has played for the Bills since they made him the 13th overall pick in the 2004 NFL draft. In seven NFL seasons, he's missed just three games, which all came at the end of last season due to an ankle injury.

"I've been here for a long time and I know a lot of people that have been around the organization for a while, so yeah I'm happy," he said. "The reality of it is is that I'm here now and we're getting prepared to play a game with Chicago on Saturday."

The Bills open their preseason with the Bears on Aug. 13 at Soldier Field in Chicago at 8 pm.
