Quarantine Q&A: Dawson Knox

How are you staying connected with your family and friends?

Thankfully, my family's here in Nashville and I have my own place in Nashville, but I'm able to see them almost every day – my little brothers and my little sister. My parents' house is just 15 minutes down the road. I've been able to work out with my brother some and then my little brothers, who are 8 and 10, named Nate and Isaiah, they're adopted, I'm able to go play basketball outside with them in our backyard. We go fishing sometimes in a local neighborhood pond, so we're still able to get out and do some stuff outside when the weather is nice. I've been able to see a whole lot of family over the last few weeks.

What shows are you currently watching?

I'm watching 'Money Heist.' It's about a bank robbery. It's actually really interesting – it's kind of fun to watch. It's shot in Spanish but there is an English voice-over. I also want to start 'Ozark.' I've heard that's awesome, but I've only seen the first episode and that was a while ago. So, I'm thinking that might be my next one after I finish 'Money Heist.'

Are you reading any books?

I just got a new devotional book for Easter from my mom that I'm about to start. I thought about going back through the "Harry Potter" books because I loved those so much several years ago and they're such awesome books. As of right now, I'm not in the middle of any certain book.

What's the weirdest thing in your fridge right now?

I have half a tray of banana pudding left that my mom made for me and my brother. She let me take it back to my place. I did not argue with her. So, now I have plenty of banana pudding leftovers and I think she might make the best banana pudding in the county.

How are you keeping up with the "extras" like haircuts, etc.?

Honestly, I don't think I've had a haircut since October or November. It's just been going recently…Thankfully, I haven't necessarily needed that. Maybe somebody would say otherwise, based on how my hair looks, but I've been letting it go.

What's the first thing you're going to do when you get out of quarantine?

I'm probably going to go to a nice Mexican restaurant and eat as many chips and salsa as I possibly can. Then, maybe go see a movie – just something to get out of the house. I love being able to do anything with a couple friends – maybe go to one of these great bars in Nashville that have great live music.

What's the last thing you ordered online?

I ordered some flip flops yesterday. We have those in our facility and they're the most comfortable things ever. I was walking around the house the other day realizing, 'Oh man, I could really use a pair of those.' So, I ordered a pair yesterday. I have been trying not to fall victim to all the online shopping, but it's just so tempting now that we can't get out and actually buy anything at the stores.

What is your favorite room in your house right now?

Does my patio count? I'm in a high-rise condo downtown in Nashville. I have, thankfully, a pretty nice patio so that I can at least feel like I'm outside most of the day. I have good seating out there and when the weather's nice at least, I can sit out there and enjoy the sun without having to leave. That's probably my favorite.

What's your go-to video game?

I haven't played video games in the last couple months. I'm planning to again here soon because I'm going a little stir crazy trying to find things to do. I used to love 'Fortnite' and the new 'Call of Duty' was really fun too. So, if I was going to play it would probably be one of those two. I'm not a big video game guy by myself, but if I have some friends online that I can play with, that's usually when I'll play.

What's your go-to quarantine outfit?

More times than not, I'm always going to pick the comfy option, even if it's not quarantine. I am great in a pair of sweatpants and a T-shirt, a nice hoodie if it's a little cold outside. I'm all about some nice Nike sweats or something like that. Honestly, it's not very different than what I would be wearing if we were able to get out and about a little bit.

What's your go-to snack?

I don't know if you can really call it a snack, but one of my favorite things is a Hawaiian roll with some ham and cheese on there – just a mini sandwich. It's so hard to beat those, they're great and so easy to make too.

What's your go-to social media platform?

I don't have a TikTok. Apparently, that's the thing to have nowadays. Everybody seems like they're talking about TikTok, but I don't have one. I would probably have to say Snapchat now because we can't see as many people as we want to. So, being able to at least send pictures back and forth or funny videos, have group chats with your friends on Snapchat, is funny.

What's your go-to takeout meal?

I love poke, which is raw fish – kind of like sushi bowls. That's probably my go-to honestly. I know there's a place in Buffalo…we have one in Nashville, which is awesome. I could probably eat a poke bowl almost every day honestly.

How else are you passing the time?

I've tried to avoid watching a ton of shows, playing video games, but one of my favorite things ever is just playing any kind of board game...There are two or three of us that will play 'Monopoly,' or I just learned how to a play a game called 'Catan.' I love that game! I just played for the first time last night. Really any type of game like that with some strategy in it, that passes the time, [is great]. Those games last long too, about two hours. Me and my family, we've been playing a bunch of 'Spades.' We're a really competitive family too, so it can get pretty heated, which honestly makes it fun.
