The Buffalo Bills agreed to terms with Joe Brady on Tuesday to be the team's next head coach on a five-year contract.

Buffalo promoted Brady to head coach after two seasons as the offensive coordinator.

Here are five more things to know about Buffalo's newest coach:

He's set to be the youngest NFL head coach in 2026

While the Raiders, Cardinals and Browns have yet to name their new head coaches, Joe Brady currently ranks as the youngest NFL coach going into 2026 at 36 years old. He will be 37 in September.

Rams coach Sean McVay still holds the record for youngest NFL coach at the date of the hire (30 years) and youngest NFL coach to win a Super Bowl (36 years).

Brady (36), Saints HC Kellen Moore (37), Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald (38), Bears HC Ben Johnson (39) and Sean McVay (40) rank as the top five youngest head coaches in the NFL.

Brady has a great relationship with Josh Allen

Since joining the Bills in 2022 as the quarterbacks coach, Brady has developed a close relationship with Josh Allen.

"We know each other really well, I've got a lot of faith in him, and he's got faith in me," Allen said ahead of the 2025 season.

When Brady was named the full-time offensive coordinator following the 2023 season, he shared his vision for the offense centered around Allen.

"At the end of the day, this is Josh Allen's offense," Brady said in May of 2024. "You're going to put together the offense around the guys that you've got… There'll be some elements of things that I believe in, but it's more of like, tell me who we have on our football team and the guys and what they can do well and we're going to do that."

His offense has ranked among the best in the NFL

Since becoming Buffalo's offensive coordinator, the Bills averaged 29.6 points per game (2nd), 367.7 total yards per game (3rd), 145.4 rushing yards per game (3rd) and 222.3 passing yards per game (10th).

Advanced metrics also favor Brady as the Bills rank 1st in EPA/play, 2nd in success rate, 2nd in EPA/dropback and 1st in EPA/rush since 2024.

In 2024, Brady helped coach Josh Allen to his first MVP award and was an AP Assistant Coach of the Year Finalist. A year later RB James Cook III won the NFL rushing title in Brady's offense.

He and his wife had their second child during the 2024 season

Josh Allen gave Brady a game ball following the team's 26-7 win over the Steelers in Week 13 after learning that his wife gave birth to their daughter the day of the game.

"We got two kids born in Buffalo, and so they'll be proud of that their whole life," Brady said.

Brady flew back home with the team from Pittsburgh, went home and saw his new-born baby girl.

"A lot of energy when I got back, when I got home last night, I got to meet my daughter," Brady said on Dec. 1.

Brady has prior overlap with a handful of current Bills assistants

Several coaches on the Bills staff already have a relationship with Brady prior to their time in Buffalo.

Brady worked with Bills quarterback coach Ronald Curry in New Orleans when both were offensive assistants in 2017 and 2018. While in New Orleans, Brady also overlapped with Bills senior defensive assistant Ryan Nielsen who was a defensive line coach

Bills linebackers coach Al Holcomb was the Panthers interim defensive coordinator/assistant head coach during Brady's stint as Carolina's offensive coordinator.

Offensive quality control coach DJ Mangas played with Brady in college at William & Mary, then the pair coached together at W&M, LSU and Carolina.

It remains to be seen how much the Buffalo coaching staff will change, but it's certainly a positive that several coaches already on staff have developed a relationship with the new head coach.
