Three Bills players made headlines for different reasons on the first day of practice following the bye week.
CB Tre'Davious White, WR Tyrell Shavers and T Spencer Brown all spoke with the media on Wednesday to speak about their eventful hump days.
Here's what they had to say:
Tre'Davious White makes his return to Buffalo
Former Bills 2017 first-round pick Tre'Davious White was signed to the team's practice squad the day after their Week 6 victory in Las Vegas. The 31-year-old has spent eight of his nine NFL seasons in Buffalo and took the practice field Wednesday for the first time since rejoining the organization.
Being back in the building after starting the year as a free agent brought on a wave of emotions for White.
"It means everything. I'm a Bill. I can always consider myself as such," White said. "This is home for me, home for my family. So anytime I get an opportunity to come back and help these guys out and just be a part of something special, I'm all for it."
White appeared in 18 total games for the Bills throughout the 2025 season, tallying an interception and 13 passes defended. Now one year later, he's prepared to take on a different role for the team, understanding the way his veteran presence can be a valuable asset for a young CB room.
"I'm just coming to see where I can help out, see where I can be an extension of the coaching staff," White said. "Just trying to let the guys see what I'm seeing, give them some knowledge that I've been having over the last nine years."
Playing under a different defensive mind will be a new challenge for White as he makes his return. Defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard's defense presents new points of emphasis, but the 31-year-old is confident he'll fit right in.
"I mean, it's a lot of matchy, a lot of more man, but it's nothing that as a football player that you can adjust and adapt to," White said. " I always consider myself just a complete cornerback."
Returning to the Kaleida Health Performance Center on Wednesday felt natural for White, but he's still getting back into the swing of the NFL schedule.
"I haven't had an alarm clock since January. So imagine that nine months later, the first alarm clock going off," White said with a laugh. "It's like my first day of school, but I was excited to get in here, get to work at my first day of practice. It was good to get out there and move around with my teammates."
Tyrell Shavers details ACL recovery
Wide receiver Tyrell Shavers got out for his first day of practice of the season on Wednesday as a limited participant. He has been recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in last year's Wild Card matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars in January.
It's been 290 days since the 27-year-old has been able to practice, with Wednesday's session giving Shavers the chance to test out how his knee has recovered.
"It felt great," Shavers said. "Of course you got to knock some rust off, but it just felt good to be back out there with the guys having fun again."
The rehabilitation process was long and difficult to get back out onto the field, but now with his 21-day practice window opening, Shavers is looking to re-establish himself on the roster.
"It was a long road, up a mountain," Shavers said. "Every day it was almost something new. You achieve something, then it's on to the next thing. So it's been a long road, but it was fun. Shout out to the staff here. They pushed me every single day to get back here."
Shavers appeared in all 17 regular season games for Buffalo in 2025, catching 15 passes for 245 yards through the air. He's re-acclimating himself back into the offense now, taking it one step at a time.
"It's definitely been different; It's been a lot of fun, though," Shavers said. "The energy's different in the room, but it's a good energy, and we have fun every day. I think everybody compliments each other very well on the field as well."
Spencer Brown expresses optimism despite missing practice
The Bills' Week 5 slugfest against the Los Angeles Rams saw Spencer Brown exit the game with a back injury in the first half and not return. He later suited up and played all 60 minutes against the Raiders the following week. But coming off the bye, Brown was not on the practice field Wednesday.
Despite missing the week's first day, Brown remained confident in his ability to be mentally prepared for the matchup against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
"[Head coach Joe Brady] knows I can be ready whenever," Brown said. "He doesn't worry about me being ready to play playbook-wise or anything like that. So it's just making sure I'm fully physically ready to go and make this push for the next five weeks, and get a little mini-bye again and make the push at the end of the season."
Brown doesn't want any excuses to be made for him, feeling like he's got a good understanding of the lingering back injury. His goal has remained the same the whole time: just make sure he's ready come kickoff.
"I do pride myself on being ready every single day. I've got to roll out of bed and play on Sunday morning and have no problems," Brown said. "But when I'm out there, I'm out there. There's not going to be any, 'Oh, he's nicked up. He's got this going on. That's why he's not playing very well.' That's not me at all. If I'm out there in between the lines, I'm good enough to go."
DJ Moore: "Mad at myself" for missing games
Moore spoke to reporters briefly after practice, sharing that it's been hard for him to not be on the field the last two games and that he's "mad at myself" for having an injury that causes him to sit down.
"Because I missed time. I don't be wanting to miss time. I love the game and I be wanting to be out there with the guys," he said.
Moore was a limited participant in practice though he did go through individual drills and was the first receiver in QB-WR throwing drills catching passes from Josh Allen.
Wednesday Injury Report
Brown was the only player to not participate on Wednesday. OLB Bradley Chubb (chest/thumb), TE Dalton Kincaid (chest) and WR DJ Moore (shoulder) were all limited, wearing red non-contact jerseys.
CB Dee Alford (ankle), DL Ed Oliver (knee), OLB TJ Parker (knee) and DL T.J. Sanders (shoulder) were also limited participants at Wednesday's practice, without non-contact jerseys.
