Longtime Bills fan Tim Mitchell witnessed history as he watched defensive tackle Kyle Williams' last game in a Bills uniform on Sunday. A Season Ticket Member since 1981, Mitchell also got to add another incomparable experience to his own Bills history when he was honored as the team's Season Ticket Member of the Game. Originally from Branson, a city right outside of Toronto, Canada, Mitchell still fondly recalls his first trip to see the Bills play.
"Around '77 [or] '78, my friend took me down to a game," he explained. "I saw the Bengals with Joe Ferguson and I fell in love. From then on, I started getting tickets sent by mail…I decided to get season tickets and the best ones I could get at the time were [on the] 15-yard line about halfway up. So, every year I would call in…just to try and get better every year. We went through the Kelly years, which were magnificent. We saw some of the greatest games."
Throughout his time as a fan, Mitchell has made countless memories. One of his favorites though, will always be the 1991 AFC Championship game.
"I think my best Bills memory [was]…that Denver game when we...sacked [John] Elway on the seven or eight-yard line on fourth down. I think [that] was the greatest moment."
While he's undoubtedly enjoyed watching many Bills Legends take the field during his tenure, especially his all-time favorites Jim Kelly and Bruce Smith, Mitchell's favorite part of game day at New Era Field is getting to know other fans.
"The whole experience [is great] and [so is] having my son with me …I think my favorite part of course, apart from seeing all the great visitors come in and out, are the fans in front of me," he said. "We're [in] the 11th row…"
