After a day off, the Bills were back on St. John Fisher's practice field for their fourth practice of camp. The team started practice in pads and took them off before team periods started. The rain didn't stop the offense as quarterback Josh Allen connected with several teammates in the end zone.
Here's what you need to know from Monday's practice.
"A natural leader" | How Bradley Chubb is quickly fitting into Buffalo's culture
Nine-year veteran Bradley Chubb may be rocking a new uniform in 2026, but many players say it seems like he's been here for more than a few months. After signing with Buffalo in early March, Chubb took no time to jump into being a team leader. While it takes some players years to step into leadership roles, Chubb says it's just the type of player he is.
"Just being me, honestly, it's what got me here," Chubb explained. "I've been doing the same style of leadership since I was in college, and I feel like it's carried over. Just being the true version of myself each and every day … I try to just be the best version of me, and that brings everybody else along with you."
Players and coaches are taking note of this leadership style. Chubb even hosted rookie outside linebacker TJ Parker in Miami during the break so the rookie could learn from a vet who's played in 90 games.
"He's a natural leader, guys want to follow him," defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard said. "Great professional habits, you name it, he's knocked that out of the park. So, on top of being a great player, he knows the system. He's played in a very similar system, that's kind of what he grew up in Denver. So, I'm excited for the on-the-field leadership he can provide."
Chubb was drafted by the Broncos with the fifth overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and spent four and a half seasons in Denver. He recorded 26 sacks in 49 games. While he didn't overlap with Leonhard in Denver (2024-25), he did play in a similar system. He believes that system will work for Buffalo.
"I think it suits us very well," Chubb said. "I feel like once we fully, fully get it, the guys being in the system can play so fast and just be the best version of ourselves. You start to see glimpses of it, four days and a couple of months in, and it's still a work in progress, but guys are getting it, guys are locking into it fast and buying in for sure."
It hasn't taken long for Chubb to flash in Leonhard's 3-4 defense. The outside linebacker had sack during a team period in the red zone as he pushed the quarterback out of the pocket and continued to pursue him until it was a clear would-be sack.
As he gears up for year nine and his third NFL team, Chubb is feeling a new sense of energy.
"I had probably one 11-win season, one playoff appearance for myself. Two technically, but I didn't play in one," Chubb said. "It is re-energizing to get to a city, a team and an organization who has expectations of not just the first round (of playoffs), not just the second round but being in the long haul in the playoff run."
Chubb's seen Buffalo's winning ways from afar due to playing for Miami for a few seasons. During that time, he was intrigued enough to ask about the culture in the middle of the game.
"I remember my rookie year Bradley Chubb lining up opposing me, and he was like, 'Do you like it here in Buffalo?,'" tight end Dalton Kincaid said reflecting on the instance. "And it was like the oddest question to be asked as a rookie. Then you flash forward, three or four years later, and he's on our team. So, I think it's pretty cool, just him to come in and just seamlessly become a leader."
Kincaid says he gave Buffalo a glowing review and is happy to have a leader like Chubb in the building.
Bills offense finds success in the red zone | Day 4 practice notes
The Bills practiced in a steady rain on Monday morning, but that didn't stop the offense from heating up.
During 6 on 6, quarterback Josh Allen hit several receivers for touchdowns. On one play, Allen scrambled and found wide receiver Khalil Shakir for a touchdown. On another play, Allen placed a perfect ball to tight end Dalton Kincaid, leading him away from defenders; Kincaid extended to make a great grab. Allen then found wide receiver Joshua Palmer in the back of the end zone for a toe-tapping touchdown. Palmer and Allen have connected for a couple of TDs to start camp.
Defensively, cornerback Maxwell Hairston had a pass breakup on wide receiver DJ Moore. Hairston did a great job of reading the route and broke up the play to save a touchdown. Toward the end of the period, safety Sam Franklin Jr. was matched up against tight end Jackson Hawes. Franklin jumped in front of the passing lane and got his hands on the ball to break it up before it could reach Hawes.
The Bills focused on red zone plays during team periods. The tight ends were featured early on as Allen targeted tight end Dawson Knox on back-to-back plays. Knox caught a screen pass and scored on one play. Allen targeted Knox on the other side of the field on the next play. Knox made a one-handed grab, but safety Damar Hamlin popped it out before Knox had possession. The veteran TE quickly jumped on the ball mid-air and secured the catch. Allen then looked to Kincaid next. He found his fourth-year tight end near the corner of the end zone; Allen placed it perfectly--high and away from the defender. Kincaid caught it in-stride, over the shoulder and continued up the field for a TD.
Later, Allen was pressured by defensive lineman Phidarian Mathis and outside linebacker Michael Hoecht. The QB escaped the pocket and found Moore in the back of the end zone for the score. Cornerback Dee Alford picked up a pass break up during the period, and defensive lineman Landon Jackson had would-be a sack.
Dalton Kincaid's approach to offseason training paying off
Heading into his fourth NFL season, Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid's spent his spring and summer focused on getting back to full health. The tight end has had a hot start to training camp, showing off the dividends from his new-look offseason preparation.
"I think I attacked [this offseason] a little bit better than I have in previous offseasons, and focused a lot more on training," Kincaid said. "… I spent a lot of time training down in Southern California and working there, and I feel really good where I'm at right now."
That hot start was on full display at the fourth training camp practice on Monday, with the 26-year-old catching a pair of touchdowns from quarterback Josh Allen during team workouts in the red zone. One of the biggest differences for Kincaid was his intentional approach to training, getting his work started as early as possible.
"You can choose to have more time off, or choose to attack it earlier, and I think that was the plan this year, was just to attack it earlier and get a head start on it," Kincaid said. "I think I needed it physically, and I feel like it's paying off."
The Bills exercised the fifth-year option on the TE's contract back in March, showcasing the confidence the organization has in the young tight end to continue to grow.
"We believe in Dalton," Bills GM Brandon Beane said at the start of camp. "The things that have happened to him haven't been from a lack of preparation or a lack of effort. He's done everything he could... If we keep him healthy, I think we'll see the guy that has shown a lot over his first few years."
With three seasons under his belt now, Kincaid has noticed a difference in how he understands the game, feeling increasingly comfortable as he gains more experience at the highest level.
"I think a lot of things just kind of slow down," Kincaid said. "You have more of an idea of what's going on. You have more experience on the field and seeing defenses and coverage and alignments… [I have] a little bit more confidence going into year four."
Injuries over the last two seasons have caused Kincaid to not only miss nine games but also forced him to see a smaller role even when active at times to limit the chance for re-injury.
"That kind of wears on you, just not being able to be out there in certain situations and be there for your teammates," Kincaid said. "This year, I feel really good where I'm at right now, and hoping to continue to feel really good."
