Wednesday injury report: Clay working his way back

He's been out of the lineup since he suffered a hamstring injury in Week 9 against Chicago. On Wednesday, TE Charles Clay participated in practice for the first time since the injury.

Though Clay was only a limited participant, he felt good in his first day back on the practice field after a one-month layoff.

"It felt good getting back out here with my teammates. I didn't realize how long it's been," Clay told "It's felt like an eternity. It's good to come out here and compete and have fun."

Clay had struggled to produce this season in Buffalo's new offensive system under coordinator Brian Daboll prior to his injury. With the revolving door at quarterback due to injury in the first half of the season, the veteran tight end found it difficult to establish consistent on-field chemistry with any of the signal callers that took the field.

Between Josh Allen's elbow injury and his injury, the rookie quarterback and Clay have not been on the same field for almost two months. But Allen believes they can make up for lost time.

"Me and Chuck have a good relationship," said Allen. "I think we have a good feel for each other. He's easy to read on the field. His body language is great as far as running routes. When he gets back on the field it's going to be seamless."

Clay can still be a viable weapon in the middle of the field over the team's last five games if he can get back into the lineup sooner rather than later.
