The Buffalo Bills opened camp Wednesday at St. John Fisher University with a handful of injury updates from head coach Sean McDermott.

TE Dawson Knox (hamstring), RT Spencer Brown (back), C Sedrick Van Pran Granger (calf) and WR Laviska Shenault (lower leg strain) will miss the first day of practice as they deal with injuries.

McDermott said he did not have a timetable to share regarding return to play for any of the four players and the team is taking it "one day at a time" with them to begin camp.

When specifically asked about Brown's injury, the coach shared that the right tackle is dealing with a "flare up" in his back and the team is being cautious.

"Just getting (the back) in the right spot so we can get it calmed down and (Brown) can push forward," McDermott said.

RB James Cook reported to camp Tuesday and is expected to practice with the team. The Pro Bowl RB was not in attendance for voluntary workouts or OTA's in the early spring, but he did report to mandatory mini camp in June — and now to training camp.

"Couldn't be more pleased with James and him being here on time and ready to go," McDermott said. "Got a chance to greet him yesterday, and shake his hand… He's ready to go."

DE Joey Bosa is also expected to practice after missing mandatory minicamp with a calf strain. McDermott praised Bosa for his commitment to rehabbing the injury to be ready for this week.

"Couldn't be more happy with the work that he's put in to come back healthy and ready to go. And we'll have a rep plan for him to manage things to the best of our ability, to try and keep him as healthy as possible," he said.
