Buffalo Bills at Miami Dolphins Game Predictions | Week 10

110925-jones-defense-game-predictions

The Buffalo Bills (6-2) are 10-point favorites against the Miami Dolphins (2-7) at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on Sunday. The game will air at 1 pm on CBS.

Here's a list of additional notes for this AFC East matchup:

  • Bills have won 7 consecutive games against Miami
  • Bills are 11-1 in Miami since 2020
  • Gametime temperature in Miami is expected to be 86 degrees
  • Tua Tagovailoa is 1-9 vs. Buffalo

The Bills are the biggest favorite on the board in Week 10. The road to victory won't be entirely smooth in South Beach, but Buffalo's ability to run the ball and control possession should wear down the Dolphins defense.

Score prediction: Bills 23, Dolphins 14

Will the recent firing of G.M. Chris Grier give the Dolphins a kick in the ass?

Florio's pick: Bills 30, Dolphins 21.

Simms's pick: Bills 34, Dolphins 24.

The Bills are coming off an emotional victory over the Chiefs, while the Dolphins suffered another bad loss to the Ravens last Thursday. This could be a spot for a letdown, but the Bills have owned the Dolphins in recent years, especially Josh Allen. That won't change here as the Bills avoid a letdown. Bills big.

Pick: Bills 34, Dolphins 19

The Bills won the first meeting 31-21 in Week 3, and the key for the Dolphins to keep this close will be forcing turnovers. Buffalo has a plus-four turnover margin in two games since their bye week with Josh Allen at the controls. Miami has three or more turnovers in three of its last four games. That's not a winning formula.

Pick: Bills 27, Dolphins 17

The Bills are rolling and the Dolphins are reeling. James Cook won't be slowed down from his march toward the league rushing title while there seems to be less chance of De'Von Achane getting the needed offensive support to keep up. Josh Allen makes sure this rematch isn't close.

Pick: Bills win 34-17 and cover the spread.

What we're hearing on the Bills: QB Josh Allen will look to continue his historic commanding performances against the Dolphins. In 15 games with Allen starting against Miami, the Bills have averaged 32.5 points per game, the fifth-highest team mark by a starting QB against a single opponent in the Super Bowl Era (since 1966). This is also a prime game for Allen to score another rushing touchdown (has had two in each of the past two games) as Miami has allowed four rushing touchdowns to QBs, second most in the league. -- Alaina Getzenberg

What we're hearing on the Dolphins: QB Tua Tagovailoa took responsibility for his play this season -- which he said falls well below the standard he has set in previous seasons -- but, when asked, he stopped short of saying he's playing for his job. Coach Mike McDaniel said earlier this week that the team is "certain" Tagovailoa is the best option against the Bills, but he left things relatively open-ended after this week: "We play the players that give us the best chance to win, and when that changes or if that changes or if somebody else gives us a better shot, then we adjust there." -- Marcel Louis-Jacques

Stat to know: Tagovailoa's 11 interceptions so far is tied for the most in the NFL with the Raiders' Geno Smith. With another pick, Tagovailoa would be first Dolphins QB since Chad Henne in 2010 (12) with 12 or more interceptions in his first 10 games of a season. -- ESPN Research

Bold prediction: The Bills will keep running back De'von Achane from picking up long gains in the passing game. Buffalo is second in DVOA against running backs as receivers, and it kept Achane to just 29 yards on seven catches when these teams met in Week 3. -- Schatz

Fantasy nugget: Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid has averaged 16.0 fantasy points in the four games this season in which he has seen at least six targets. Even though he splits snaps with two other TEs (Dawson Knox and Jackson Hawes), Kincaid leads the group in routes run, which is what matters most for fantasy production. He's in an excellent spot against a defense that allows the fifth-most fantasy points per game to TEs. See Week 10 rankings. -- Moody

Betting nugget: The Bills are 1-4 ATS in their past five games as favorites. Read more. -- ESPN Research

Maldonado's pick: Bills 27, Dolphins 10

Moody's pick: Bills 38, Dolphins 17

Schatz's pick: Bills 27, Dolphins 16

FPI prediction: BUF, 69.6 (by an average of 7.5 points)

Davenport: Bills (-9.5)

With Buffalo coming off a huge win last week against the Kansas City Chiefs, playing on the road against a division opponent and laying well over a touchdown, it might appear that this could be a letdown spot for the Fighting Josh Allens.

But it's not—the Bills enter Week 10 staring up at the New England Patriots in the division, and the dreadful Dolphins were just waxed in Miami by the Ravens. As fun as his press conferences may be, this is going to be the lopsided loss that gets Mike McDaniel shown the door.

O'Donnell: Dolphins (+9.5)

Tua Tagovailoa's struggles against the Bills are known — it is hard to hide from a 1-9 record and 11 TD-11 INT line against a division foe. Tua has fared better in Miami than in Buffalo, though — also no secret — and the Bills just spent a ton of energy defeating perennial playoff foil Kansas City a week ago. This has the makings of a letdown.

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel got what, I guess, we can consider a vote of confidence for job security recently, and the team didn't go full Jets-level fire sale at the trade deadline, either. I'll take these points in hopes of an inspired effort or backdoor cover.

Predictions

Bills: Davenport, Gagnon, Knox, Moton, Sobleski

Dolphins: Hanford, O'Donnell

Why Gennaro picked the Bills: Because I just picked Buffalo to make Super Bowl LX, and Super Bowl teams don't lose this game. More directly, Sean McDermott's Bills don't lose this game. The franchise owns a 16-2 record against Miami since the head coach arrived in 2017, having logged the most recent win a couple months ago in Buffalo. That Thursday night game was surprisingly competitive, but it's hard to envision a tight contest this time around, given the respective states of these two teams. On the vibes front, the Dolphins just divorced their general manager, forcing the the head coach and quarterback to talk job security. Meanwhile, up north, the Bills just defeated the AFC's preeminent power, allowing the head coach and quarterback to fawn over co-workers. On the field of play, the fickle Fins have scored six points in two of the last three weeks, while the Bills' top-ranked offense has been cooking since the Week 7 bye. Now, James Cook's addition to Wednesday's injury report is a foot/ankle situation that merits monitoring, given that he plays the starring role in Buffalo's wildly efficient ground game. That said, Josh Allen just surgically dismantled Kansas City through the air, so I'm thinking the reigning MVP will be just fine if he's asked to carry more of the offensive load on Sunday, especially going against this injury-riddled, overmatched Miami secondary.
