Legacy, 2026

Family Circle, Highmark Stadium

A family moves forward—steady, powerful, and united.

Blessing Hancock explores how art shapes a sense of place, belonging, and shared identity. In this installation, she reimagines the Buffalo Bills' bison as a sculptural expression of movement and connection: a family of illuminated forms that transform the team's iconic symbol into a monument of strength, unity, and pride.

Faceted stainless steel surfaces catch and reflect light, shifting as viewers move and revealing new angles at every step. The bison stand together, their forms conveying momentum and shared direction. As a group—the bull, cow, and calf—they reflect Buffalo's strength across generations.

By day, the sculptures read as bold, striking icons; by night, they become illuminated landmarks. A smoke feature enhances their presence and sense of motion.

Hancock's work invites participation through movement and observation. Visitors are encouraged to slow down, look closely, and experience the installation from multiple perspectives.

More than a symbol, Legacy reflects the collective spirit of Buffalo—a place for gathering, a marker of identity, and a reminder that strength is built together.

Special thanks to the Bills Stadium design team, Art Research Enterprises, and a dedicated network of designers, engineers, fabricators, and lighting specialists. Together, we have created not just an artwork, but a legacy—one that invites fans to meet, reflect, and feel part of something larger than themselves.

Public Art Program

The Buffalo Bills Public Art Program, presented by Victory Live, has commissioned professional visual artists, or artist teams, to create site-specific public artwork(s) to be placed in Highmark Stadium. This artwork is thematic, public-facing, and part of the permanent collection at the stadium. All selected artists are local and/or have close ties to Buffalo or Western New York.

Over three separate Public Calls for Artists, the Program selected sculptural ceiling art, murals, and wall-based artworks of various sizes and budgets to be curated on all levels of the stadium. This $2 million program will include over 40+ artists and thousands of community members as participants in building components for several artworks.

The Public Art Program included 25+ selection panelists that reviewed applications and represented local arts organizations, communities, and stakeholder groups, including Art Services Inc, Bills Stadium & Events, Buffalo AKG Art Museum, Buffalo Arts Studio, Buffalo State University, The Buffalo History Museum, The Buffalo Institute for Contemporary Art, Burchfield Penney Art Center, Carnegie Art Center, Eat Off Art, Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center, Norwood Creative Solutions, Legends Global, Locust Street Art, Niagara Arts & Cultural Center, Populous, Ruth L Holley Design Studio, The C. Stuart and Jane H. Hunt Art Gallery, Onöhsagwë:de' Cultural Center formerly Seneca-Iroquois National Museum, and Western New York Book Arts Center.

The public art at Highmark Stadium will reflect the region's diverse demographics, team and fan engagement, and be welcoming to travelers of all backgrounds to experience artwork in an inclusive environment. Arts and sports are universal languages that allow people to express themselves and connect with others across cultures, languages, and generations.
